The beauty of Silence

One of our assignments for Dr. Childers class was to watch a movie intitled "Into Great Silence" it was pretty much a silent movie other than just a few lines said here and there that you read english subtitles to because they spoke in French. It was a 2 hour and 42 minute movie, not what I would consider entertainment for sure. Part of this assignment was to have a discussion with the class over and assigned topic. The topic was what seduces you in this film or what does not. Imediately we all began to say how it was hard to stay awake and that nothing seduced us about the silence. As I have spent the last few days thinking about it I realize that that is a major problem. Silence is something that we all need, it allows us to spend one on one time with God and allows him to speak to us. But Being an american I feel that my life is constantly going with very little time to sit in silence and let God have a moment alone with me.

All of that being said. I spent the day alone yesterday walking around the beautiful town of oxford and I just cleared my mind and enjoyed the few hours in silence. I challenge all of you to do the same let your mind clear and spend some time in silence it will amaze you how great it feels.

The week has gone very well, I am enjoying it here more and more everyday! I spent more time at the park today, we fed the ducks and just walked around it was such a beautiful day, who could pass up being outside when its in the low to mid 60s and sunny outside? I hope you are all having blessed weekends!

A world of History

So we took a day trip today to Avebury, Long Barrow, Stonehenge and Salisbury.. :-) it was a very fun trip (minus the fact that my allergies don't like me). It amazes me how much history this place has in it. You walk into a catherdral and its 750 years old and it is just amazing.

Im looking forward to a relaxing weekend in which i will actually update you fully on my week.. But for now I am tired and still don't feel so hot so im off for an evening of relaxing!

Sunshine on a Sunday!

It has been a fabulous weekend! the sun has been out all weekend with only one little rain shower! Yesterday I spent the entire day sitting in my room working on the 3 papers that I have due tomorrow. But I got all of that and the reading for tomorrow done yesterday so today I have been just relaxing.

This morning I went to the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin. It was very different than anything I had ever been to before. The service was very formal you receive the what I viewed as a script when you get to the church and you basically just follow along with the leaders and do what the thing tells you to do. There was a baptism this morning as well of an infant which was also very different for me, the whole service was focused on the baptism and it was cool to see. The sermon was all about the pros and why some people believe in infant baptism. Then there was communion in which you go to the front. It was a one cup church and they used real wine, I am going to have to get used to that.

After church I ate lunch and came upstairs and was just relaxing, I did my laundry today and am happy to have clean clothes. I have 9@9 tonight and am ready to see every one that I have not seen all weekend. Hope you all had blessed weekends!

London!

What a wonderful day to go to London. It only rained on us twice! :-) it was great! The Globe was amazing it amazes me how many people can fit in there! I really want to go see a show there now, I am hoping to get to go back to London one weekend with some friends!

After the Globe we made our way to the British Library which was absolutely amazing! Lots of awesome things there, and it made me very happy to see the bibles and other things! We then made our way to the British Museum which was also amazing! I can't believe I had so much fun at those things today!

I was able to make my way around the Subway on my own at one point 10 of us got separated from the group and we got off at the right stop and waited for them! :-)

Im tired now I hope you had a great friday!

O to see blue skies

It didn't rain today. We had some sprinkles for about 5 minutes but other than that it was a wonderful day! I'm looking at a little bit of blue sky as I type this :-).

Class was good today lots of discussing of lots of things! I even talked in class today which was good! I think however the best conversation I have had since coming here was my conversation with Rebekah last night about Christianity and different aspects of it, it was nice to see how she viewed things compared to how I did.

After class today we came back to the houses and packed a lunch and made our little stroll to the park to have a picnic it was a lot of fun. We then went shopping for a few things and have been back at the house relaxing and drinking tea in the back yard since!

Tomorrow we are headed to London, I am very excited cause we get to go see the Globe and the British Museum and Library.

Hope you all have blessed days!
enjoying a picnic in the park!

rainy day!

It has been a really rainy day today I do not believe it has stopped most the the day. It's quite nice however, very relaxing.

After class we stopped by a little store to buy a few groceries before coming back to the house. We then came back to the houses and sat in the room reading for class tomorrow. I am now done with my reading and after a delicious dinner or pasta and sauce made by Rebekah I am sitting in my room with Emily and Katherine. In about 15 min we are having apple crumbly down in the basement of this house, thanks to the Childers.

Tomorrow we are hoping for a beautiful day, maybe a chance to go have a picnic in University Parks and then friday we are off to London!

this is our house!

My first two days!

For all of you reading this I am sure you are aware that I am in the beautiful town of Oxford, England. It is beautiful and I absolutely love it. Our plane flight was nice, I slept a little but not much and I was up all day Monday which was very interesting. Once we landed in London it was onto a charter and on to the houses we went. The houses are wonderful 3 story houses with basements. We are on the 1st floor (which would be the second in America) I'm rooming with Rebekah and Stacie and we are kind of in a corner with Katherine and Emily with a door that separates us from the rest of the hall and from the kitchen and the bathroom with a shower.

Today we started classes I am really looking forward to both classes but mainly the class which I have at 8 in the morning with Dr. Childers. It has rained both days that we have been here and when we walked home from the store yesterday it began pouring. I did not have an umbrella. But i invested in one today! :-) it was a good investment it was only 3 pounds.

Im about to work on some reading pictures and more blogs to follow!
